Can we get a “re-do”?

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Can we get a “re-do”? You know, when things go wrong, we want to be able to clear the mess we have created. It is a new year, won’t we be able to get a “re-do” every year?

Unfortunately, we will not receive a “re-do” each new year. We cannot wipe the slate clean and have all of our messes done away with each new year. This sounds horrible. This sounds like we will be in our current situation forever. Or at least it feels like it!

What are we to do? The only hope we have in this new year is the same hope we had last year, and the years prior to last year. The only hope we have is to realize the new life we have from following Jesus Christ!

Oh, we won’t get to rewind our lives so as to get a “re-do.” We don’t get any chance to re-do what we once did. No matter how bad we messed up or how good we think we did. So, how does this hope in Jesus work?

As we believe in Jesus Christ, we receive forgiveness from God. All our sins which we confess are forgiven. We literally get a new start! All the messes we created are cleaned up. We still have the residue, the stain from our messes. But the messes no longer define us! Jesus defines us!

We have hoped to do better. We have hope to be better. We have hope to not have our past make our future. This sounds so much better than a “re-do”! It sounds like 2017 will be defined by our following Jesus Christ.

May we inspire each other to hope in Jesus this year, and in the years to come!

Thankfully, I am forgiven in Jesus. And so are you! Let’s live as forgiven people in 2017!

Sincerely,
John
